Filmmakers captured a mother eastern lowland gorilla nursing her infant for the PBS show “Silverback."

The clip was filmed for the Emmy- and Peabody - winning PBS series " Nature , " with the first instalment of the new season — " Silverback " — following Djenguet as he documents the lives of eastern lowland gorillas ( Gorilla beringei graueri ) , a critically endangered race of eastern gorilla ( Gorilla beringei)found in the easterly part of the DRC .

Djenguet is working with DRC conservationist to habituate a group of gorillas in the Kahuzi - Biega National Park led by an alpha male person known as Mpungwe . Habituation is the physical process of getting a group of gorilla used to the presence of homo so the animals can give income from touristry , leave visitors to safely view them in the forest .

The revenue generated from touristry in the region would be used to protect the specie and pay for local community cause to reduce poaching and disforestation .

“Silverback” follows the process of habituating Mpungwe, an eastern lowland gorilla in the Kahuzi-Biega National Park in the DRC.

Habituation is not a straightforward or straightaway appendage , however . It hinge on the male silverback of the group accepting humans , which can take years to achieve .
