It also plays into this year’s theme: titled “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,” the upcoming Costume Institute exhibit will feature approximately 250 items, including 15 significant pieces such as an 1877 Charles Frederick Worth silk satin ball gown, spanning over 400 years of history.

Many of the pieces will be exhibited alongside contemporary sartorial works, compartmentalized into a core exhibit and three additional zones — Land, Sea, and Sky — which, according to Andrew Bolton, curator in charge, “is very much an ode to nature and the emotional poetics of fashion.”

Everything will be brought to life through the use of technology, from video animation, light projection, and AI. Nick Knight, founder of SHOWstudio, will serve as creative consultant on the visual presentation while Sissel Tolaas, who has worked with Balenciaga, will develop scents for the installations.

“This innovative show will push the boundaries of our imagination and invite us to experience many facets of a work, to learn more about its history, and, ultimately, to gain a deeper appreciation of its beauty," Max Hollein, the Met’s CEO, noted toVogue.
