ActressSissy Spacekhas won an Oscar, Golden Globe, and a SAG Award, but her crowning achievement is being the mother of two beautiful girls — Schuyler Fisk, 41, and Madison Fisk, 35, with herlongtime husband Jack Fisk,a renowned production designer.
Soon after becoming a mother for the first time, theCarriestar opened up about all of the ways parenthood “changed” her.
“Everything means more,” she said in a1984 interview. “I remember my mother always saying ‘I’d fight a buzz saw for you’ and now I know what she meant. It’s a wonderful thing.”
When her obligations as a mom and as an actress conflicted, she always prioritized her family — and that included moving Los Angeles to Virginia and turning down the lead role inTerms of Endearmentto stay home with Schuyler.
Her daughters respect and appreciate all that she’s accomplished in the film industry. “I’mso proud of her,” Schuyler toldYahoo! Entertainment. “I just think she’s so amazing. She’s smart and driven and talented, and she’s really committed to doing good work.”
And now, she’s committed to being a fantastic grandmother to her grandkids, too. “I have grandchildren now,” she toldEsquire. “It’s the greatest thing that I’ve experienced. I’m very content … I think contentment is what we need and just to be. I spend a lot of time with my family and then work every so often.”

Sissy and Jack welcomed their first child, Schuyler Fisk, on July 8, 1982, in Los Angeles, California. They moved out to Virginia when she was a little kid to live on a horse farm and enjoy a more normal life outside of the bright lights of Hollywood — something Schuyleradmits she “hated”at the time.
“I wanted to be in the mix of everything, and I told them,” she told PEOPLE. “They love to make fun of me now that when I was 6 I told them they were ruining my career because we weren’t living in Los Angeles.”
Now she’s “grateful” that they made that choice. “I mean, yes, we would go off to film sets with my parents, but I also played sports and rode horses and was really involved in my community and I’m just grateful [for that],” she added.
Still, she had a unique experience growing up with famous parents — like playing with her mom’s Oscar as a child. “It was in her closet,” she recalled. “That thing is heavy. Really heavy. I can’t believe how rough, looking back, that I would play with it. But yeah, it’s still standing.”
In the end, Schuyler’s dream to become an actress came true. She got her big break inOrange County, a teen comedy co-starring another celebrity child,Colin Hanks, and even got to work alongside her mom on a film calledSam & Katein 2022.
“There wasn’t really a moment where I’m like, ‘I want to be an actor and musician.’ It just was obvious, I guess. I threw myself into it,” she said. “There was a moment when I decided to graduate high school a year early and asked them, ‘I’m going to move to L.A., okay?’ ” Despite being just 17, her parents were “shockingly very supportive.”
“But I really did have a plan and I went out there and I wasn’t too crazy, really going after my dreams,” she said. “I’m lucky they’ve supported my art.”
Her dreams also included being a music artist — and the two aligned whenSam & Katefeatured her song “Life After" on the soundtrack. The experience was much like the one her mom had while working on a rendition of the title song ofCoal Miner’s Daughter. The project earned Sissy a Grammy nom.

Schuyler admires both of her parents and gladly accepts any advice her mom wants to share. “I respect my parents and their commitment to their art and I take all the advice — I love it," she said. “I look up to them and I admire them and I respect their careers and their choices and their dedication and work ethic. Any advice they can give, I’m happy.”
But whenSchuyler got the chance to take on Sissy’s most famousrole in aCarriereboot, she politely declined. “It just didn’t feel like the right thing for somany reasons, so it was never gonna happen,” she toldYahoo! Entertainment“I feel likeCarrieis such an epic film as it is, so the idea of trying to do anything else to recreate it just didn’t feel necessary … It was sweet that they thought of me. But it just wasn’t the right thing.”
Life for Schuyler has not been without challenges. In 2019, she opened up about her battle with endometriosis in a vulnerableInstagrampost. “Knowing what I know now, I had all the major signs of endo since I was in my teens and asked my doctors about my symptoms on the regular, but no doctor ever mentioned the word endometriosis to me until this past year (at 36),” she said.
The actress underwent surgery to help ease her pain, which she called a “gamechanger.” “I’ve found that a mostly plant-based diet has also been really helpful for me, but we are all different,” she added. “We are strong and knowledge is power!”
On Mother’s Day 2020, Schuyler thanked her mom for all she’s given her. “Thank you for making me. and for nurturing me. and for loving me. for encouraging me. supporting me. for always being there for me. and for showing me what true unconditional love is,” she wrote onInstagram. you are so beautiful inside and out! I want to be just like you when I grow up!”

Sissy and Jack’s younger daughter Madison “VM” Fisk was born on Sept. 21, 1988, in Charlottesville, Virginia. Schuyler was thrilled to be a big sister, and recalled welcoming her sibling in asweet birthday postin 2018.
Schuyler revealed that her mom bought her her own diaper bag so she could feel like she was truly helping. Now that they’re all grown up, they’re the best of friends.

Madison is an artist like her father. She studied painting and video art at the California Institute of the Arts and sculpture at Virginia Commonwealth University, according to herNew City Arts bio.
She did some work in the film industry building and designing film sets, but she decided to venture off on her own as an artist and won the Herradura Barrel Art competition in 2014. She also designs jewelry and shares her work on herInstagrampage. Madison describes herself as “an animal lover, realistic optimist and dad joke fan.”
