Pete Davidson‘s life is hitting the big screen.

The movie will follow in the same tone, with Davidson’s real-life experiences loosely featured. The comedian and actor’s father, who was a firefighter, died when Davidson was 7-years-old during the 9/11 World Trade Center terrorist attack.

The announcement comes days after Davidson’s performance in the coming-of-age comedyBig Time Adolescenceearned rave reviews at the Sundance Film Festival.

Davidson’s profile has grown in the last year after his four-month romance with singerAriana Grandedominated the summer headlines. The comedian has since riled concern for his well-being with a series of posts about his mental health, including a note on his since-deleted Instagram that fans and friends took as a public threat of suicide.

Instead of discussing his mental health right away, Davidson joked, “As you know, I’ve had a really crazy month but I want to talk about something that matters a lot to me — the new Clint Eastwood movie,The Mule!”

After bringing out comedianJohn Mulaney, 36, to discussThe Mulewith him, Mulaney said, “I’ve been spending some time with Pete to try to show him that you can have a life in comedy that is not insane. A sober, domestic life.”

“Yeah, and after observing John’s life, I publicly threatenedsuicide,” Davidson said in response, prompting the audience to break out into laughter.

“I’m sorry, I know I shouldn’t make that joke,” he continued, laughing, “but it is funny.”
