NASA is not wasting any metre in developing new spacesuit to be used in a variety of localisation for theJourney To Mars . Two new suits ,   PXS and Z2 , were introduced inOctoberand they   have now reached the leg of cultivate forward-looking prototypes .

The PXS , or prototype exploration spacesuit , was developed to meliorate performance on extra - vehicular bodily function ( EVAs ) , spacewalks ,   in low - world orbital cavity or outer outer space . The suit aims to understate the amount of equipment necessary for long duration EVAs . The PXS has a versatile approach to adjustment . Many features are 3D printed , so the suit can be personalized for any crew extremity and for different type of EVAs .

The other prototype , the Z2 suit , is a prototype for EVAs on a planetary surface . The lawsuit was design by ILC Dover and it was fabricate with Mars in mind . The case sports ripe composite materials to achieve a light - system of weights , in high spirits - lastingness exterior which can hold off the harsh Martian environment . The suit allow the cosmonaut to move freely , get in and out of rovers , and collect samples . Again , the wooing has adjustable features , so it can accommodate astronauts of unlike meridian and waistline size of it .

Both suits are yet to be tested with their Portable Life Support System ( PLSS ) bind . The PLSS will incorporate a C dioxide removal organization , which is able-bodied to also control the humidity of the causa . The system will be able to regenerate itself by but being let out to a vacancy , lay down it simpler to use than current ones , which want to be regenerate for 14 hour after every use .

The PLSS will also have   an advanced atomic number 8 regulator with 84 preferences , which can be used to provide the safe amount of oxygen to the astronauts as well as providing decompression sickness treatment directly in the case .

The full suits should be tested by 2020 , according to theengineersworking on it . More pictures are useable on theNASA ’s SuitUp website .
