Kelly Clarksonhad a hilarious (and no doubt, humbling) encounter at Sunday’s2019 Academy of Country Music Awards.
TheAmerican Idolchamp and chart-topper, 36, performed twice at the 54th annual awards show, taking the stage at the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino to sing duets with bothJason AldeanandDan + Shay. But while sitting in the audience, Clarkson met a man who apparently wasn’t watching the program and mistook her for someone else: a seat filler!
“Literally, it made my night because he was so serious, and I just politely said no,” Clarkson added.

Clarkson’s trip to the ACMs came days afterending her acclaimed Meaning Of Life Tour,and months before the star is set to launch her own self-titled daytime talk show.
Her two performances on the ACMs stage Sunday night earned Clarkson cheers from the crowd.
She first showed up with Dan + Shay for a soaring performance of their collaboration “Keeping Score.” Dressed in a little black dress with a statement belt, Clarkson harmonized with Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney on the tune.
After that, Clarkson changed into a blue sequined long-sleeve midi dress to perform with Aldean, the two artists reprising their ACM-winning 2010 duet “Don’t You Want to Stay” (which became a multi-platinum No. 1 crossover hit).

Dan + Shaywere big winners at the ACMs, picking up awards for duo of the year, single of the year and song of the year, for “Tequila.”
Among the other stars who accepted trophies at the show were Keith Urban (entertainer of the year), Thomas Rhett (male artist of the year), Kacey Musgraves (female artist of the year and album of the year), Old Dominion (group of the year), Ashley McBryde (new female artist of the year), Luke Combs (new male artist of the year), and LANCO (new duo or group of the year).
