The Royal Society recently hold the first picture taking competition in its long history . The London - based company of scientist — which pride itself on being the " oldest scientific academy in continuous existence"—invited readers and author of the group ’s diary , Royal Society Publishing , to take image that touch to biological principles in three family : Behavior , Ecology and Environmental Science , and Evolutionary Biology . The success of the contest were formally announced this week .

A Belgium - based biologist name Bert Willaert have the title of overall succeeder and also earn the top honors ( and cash pillage of £ 500 ) for his look-alike in the Ecology and Environmental Science category . His photo , titledTadpoles overhead , was shot from a very unusual slant : the bottom of a pond , beneath an army of common toad tadpole .
