Godzilla Minus Onestomps into U.S. field of operations today , so director Takashi Yamazaki probably already has a lot on his plate right now . But goddammit , the man wants to doa Star Wars moving-picture show , and now I can suppose of nothing more perfect .
“ I watched Star Wars , and that ’s how I ended up being a filmmaker , ” Yamazaki recently tell / Filmabout his hope for what flick he could do next . “ I ’m really skip I will get a call and they will contribute me on Star Wars . ”
Look . face . I know Lucasfilm doesnot currently have a great track recordof actually getting Star Wars movies made by the music director it hires to make Star warfare movies . I sleep together they just recently pare down their ticket of planned movies even further , to focus on thethree big new projectson the horizon : Dave Filoni ’s Mando - verse line cinema , James Mangold ’s blood of the Jedi picture , and Sharmeen Obaid - Chinoy ’s Rey Skywalker / New Jedi Order film . But . But ! Here ’s the thing : a Takashi Yamazaki Star Wars picture show could be goddamn incredible .

I ’m not just say that because Godzilla Minus One is really dependable ( it is though ) . I am not even just saying that because Yamazaki walks the walk when it comes to being a Star Wars fan and its influence on him — when Ispoke to the managing director in 2020for his 3DCGLupin III movie , The First , his office was line with shelves upon shelves of the corner , and discharge answer of , Bandai ’s phone line of Star Wars framework kit . I ’m order this because Yamazaki is n’t just a great managing director , but a great ocular FX lead , and is experienced in the sort of monumental labor a Star Wars project would be — and clearly experienced in balancing practical and visual effects like anything in the extragalactic nebula far , far away .
One of the many , many great things about Minus One ( okay sue me , so maybe I was also saying all this because Godzilla Minus One is really good ! ) is how tactile its FX work is . While being a CG creation , Godzilla moves and interact with the forcible world around him in Minus One like a compounding of living beast and his radical as , well , aman in a monster suit . It ’s a triumph of balance his sure-enough - school legacy and in delivering a keen looking ogre movie , but it ’s also the sort of approach that would be fantastic in a Star Wars motion-picture show — build on the saga ’s history with hardheaded mannikin work and revolutionizing the VFX industry as we know it , and arrange it in the hand of someone with a really keen eye for that bequest . Yamazaki could even supply a few modeling himself !
I do n’t care what it is . Hell , give himthe Zillo beast , cheap as that would be . Just someone , anyone out there at Lucasfilm interested in making something great , give the man a call .
