“[I wore it] for so many reasons,” theactress toldDeadlineof the female anatomy design, adding, “It’s brand appropriate.”
Inside the ceremony, Anderson told PEOPLE — after receiving a hug fromJennifer Garner— that the dress also had a floral inspiration, quipping that what she loved most about it was that “it’s covered in peonies!”
Anderson was very involved in the design of the dress, collaborating closely with Hearst to bring the vision to live. The brand revealed that each “motif” on the bespoke gown took 3.5 hours to hand embroider.

Anderson has been very open about encouraging women to speak out about their sexuality.
Last year, she revealed in an Instagram video thatshe is curating a bookabout women and sex — and she even asked her social media followers toshare their sexual fantasieswith her.

TheX-Filesstarsaid the book’s objective focuses on “exploring how women think about sex because sex is about womanhood, motherhood, infidelity and exploitation, consent and respect, fairness and egalitarianism, love and hate, pleasure and pain.”
“As women, we know that sex is about more than just sex,” she added. “But so many of us don’t talk about it.”
She concluded that ultimately she hopes women would feel safe to divulge because culture often suppresses. “Our deepest most intimate fears and fantasies remain locked away inside of us until someone comes along with a key. Well, here is your key,” she said.
