If you follow pop cultivation at all , you ’ve surely seen nontextual matter shows free-base on your favorite moving-picture show and TV show . What you have n’t seen is a duo of artists fabricate their own pop culture holding to make an art show about . And that ’s what Alex Pardee and Matt Richie did . They make the Astralnauts .
“ People on Earth have believe in the supernatural forever , ” explains Pardee . “ Assuming there is lifespan on other planet , what would be considered supernatural to aliens ? So that ’s where we start . ”
And if that ’s where they started , it ends June 10 at Gallery 1988 West in Los Angeles , CA where the Astralnauts will finally come up to spirit .
So what precisely is the idea ? Well , the Astralnauts are a team of trace huntsman who go around the universe and appropriate foreigner . To catch them , they “ Toon ” them , fundamentally turning the gross , visceral true form ( which fit in with the style of Pardee ) down to a more bluff , elementary material body ( Richie ’s style . ) The show have not just paintings of the original variety , which are done by Pardee , but the captured , tooned , versions as well — done by Richie , and much more . Pardee explained that on their travels , the Astranaults chance some familiar looking aliens too , so there are sure to be works influenced by famous aliens of pop refinement . Plus , go off the idea , you see a few other things . The Astralnauts themselves for one , plus there are part that search the notes of the squad ’s loss leader , Sally . It ’s just a huge gallimaufry of work based on this Ghostbusters plus Star Trek meets Aliens idea . “ Overall , we just wanted to create a whole novel cosmos that was inspired by all these pop - culture dimension that we produce up with , ” Pardee say .
