I ’ve got moving-picture show from the DARPA cars at the Pentagon . The six finalist teams were there for the Urban challenge and they had a briefing at 1145 in the auditorium as well as showed off the vehicle from 0945 - 1300 in the midpoint court .

What are they doing there ?
Besides launching a automatonlike takeover against the U.S. military ? They are really just show off what they ’ve done . Because the literal DARPA Urban Challenge comprehensive has already happened , they are really here to just show off what DARPA has been up to to the military brass .
I do n’t know how familiar you are with this , but the DARPA challenge had two part : the off - road , and the Urban . The Urban was apparently a much greater challenge and in speak with the guy there were something like 90 squad who had to have their vehicles navigate a military air base ( think diminished suburb ) with their vehicle and polish off a series of GPS handicap point .

According to them they were allowed to drive around the area 24 hour before so they could get a feeling of it , but then on the day of they were give a USB joint that had 10 - 15 gps checkout points the railcar had to hit . So they loaded that into the computer , but were not allowed to dilute any sort of “ route ” in . Then they just had to it begin on the self-directed vehicle and hope for the good . What ’s really coolheaded — like all of this is n’t already — is that they had something like 50 stunt driver drive around the area while the robocars were move to dispute the vehicles and check that they did n’t collide . As you could tell , 6 of 90 teams ( it could have been a few more ) were the only ones capable to follow , so it was quite the task .
