The 1986 graphic novel is perfectly take at the neuroticism of the superhero , asking a very pointed interrogative : “ What kind of person would really do this ? ” The answers are n’t very ripe , and the story spends most of its meter look at its “ hero ” with a vital , if not exclusively cold , eye . You ’re not hypothesise to wish these people , and you ’re not supposed to entrust them .
At the same clip , I ’m not certain I ’m convince that watchman works as an intervention in superhero media now the way it did in the 1980s . Moore ’s critiques have been woven into the forward-looking form of the musical style . I mean , Zack Snyder , the architect of the modernistic DC cinematic universe , bring down his superheroic teeth on an adaptation of Watchmen . Superheroes as they live in 2017 are too mussy to fit neatly within Moore ’s crosshairs . I ’m glad Lindelof has an authentic interest in Watchmen , and that he seems to get it . But if he wants to make an intervention in superhero media as it stands now , he might demand more than that .
