A 21-year-old has been arrested in connection to the death of an 18-year-old college student.

On Saturday, Josiah Malachi Kilman was found “unresponsive” in his dorm room at Campbellsville University in Campbellsville, Kentucky, according to apress releasefrom the Campbellsville Police Department.

Kilman was transferred to Taylor Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead, and then transferred to the Kentucky State Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy, per police. No cause of death has officially been confirmed.

Later on Saturday, an arrest warrant was issued for Campbellsville University student Charles E. Escalera in relation to Kilman’s death, per the release. He had last been seen in the parking lot of a Lowe’s in the town.

He was then arrested for suspected murder and is being held at the Taylor County Detention Center, per the release. It is not immediately clear if he has legal representation to comment on his behalf.

In a statement, Campbellsville University president Dr. Joseph Hopkins said, “Campbellsville University is grieving the loss of one of our family. We have lost a student and our hearts are broken. During this devastating time, the continued safety of our students and the residents of our community are our primary concern.”

“With consultation from local law enforcement, we will continue to implement every measure necessary to protect and support students and our community,” the statement concluded.

Campbellsville University student Malte Akmam told local news outletLEX18that the campus was “really quiet” on Saturday.

Kilman, who was from Montana, was listed among the 2023-2024 roster for the university’s men’s wrestling team, according to itswebsite.
