Brie Larsonmay be a famous Marvel superhero now, but the Oscar winner didn’t have an easy journey to Hollywood stardom.Larson, 29, spoke with hostWillie Geistfor a new episode ofSunday TODAYairing this week — and PEOPLE is premiering an exclusive clip of the interview ahead of the episode on Sunday.Geist asked Larson if there was a point where she felt like she had finally made it in Hollywood, and the actress said no, recalling that she once “had a hard time getting work again” after a television show she was on got cancelled.“I’ve been broke a dozen times,” Larson said. “When you look at it, it kind of makes sense, or my IMDb maybe looks consistent, but really there’s large gaps of time with three auditions a day — still.”“Even beforeRoomcame out, I was stressing about money,” the actress continued, referencing the 2015 movie that won her a Best Actress Oscar. “It’s not that long ago at all!”Larson has opened up about how playing the first female superhero to lead a Marvel movie changed her life.“Carol [Danvers, her character] changed my life and the movie hasn’t even come out yet,” Larsontold PEOPLEat theLos Angeles premiere ofCaptain Marvelon Monday. “Getting strong, learning how to stand my ground, own myself, and value my voice. Those are things that I learned from her.”She added, “I’ve been very open about the fact I’m an introvert, I have asthma and I was able to push myself further than I thought possible.
