Perhaps not everyone will consort with us , but here at Gizmodo , we ’ve formally declared Blu - Ray the winner over HD DVD in the engagement to be DVD ’s replacement format . It ’s technically superior to HD DVD , has a stronger financial support , is further along as far as commercialisation is occupy , and as of today , even offer a “ span ” format between CD and Blu - Ray . I will hopefully get a chance later this week to outline exactly why Blu - Ray is simply quetch the ass of HD DVD , but for now , this declaration from Sony should suffice .

I could get into quite a bit of technical mumbo jumbo about how the “ BD / CD Dual Format Discs ” are supposedly going to work , but to make a long story brusk , there ’s two variations : the first edition has both “ Blu - Ray ” and “ CD ” side of the disc , and the 2d variation lie of having both “ Blu - Ray ” and “ compact disk ” recordable layer on the same side of the disc . The treble format discs are potential thanks to the essentially mirror layer setup of Blu - Ray and CD .
When looking from the data side of the disk , compact disk have a substrate stratum , recording layer , contemplative layer , then protective layer . Blu - Ray , on the other hand , is frame-up in almost the accurate opposite mode – protective layer , recording level , pondering bed , and substrate layer . Moreover , you could even supposedly do dual layering for your Blu - Ray side of the disc . While I ’m not going to get too far forward of Sony , I bear that it wo n’t be long before we start seeing “ BD / DVD Dual Format Discs , ” which would certainly import doom for HD DVD .
