It ’s a common misconception that people on the International Space Station ( ISS ) or on the Moon ca n’t see star . We have to blamespace photosfor that . The path we photograph things in space does n’t usually give the stars a chance to seem in a pretty manner . In realism , in space , you could see a lot more wizard than from the earth – you no longer have the effects of the air or light befoulment to make do with . This has been recently showcased by NASA Astronaut Don Pettit who return stunning scene of our astronomical neighbors from onboard the ISS .
“ In outer space , you may see whizz ! This is a time exposure using a home made tracker that cancels@issmotion . I flew it in my personal stuff . More picture to descend and how [ sic ] this all works , ” Pettit write in anInstagram situation .
The matter of the pic is theLarge and Small Magellanic Clouds , two dwarf galaxies that orbit the Milky Way . They are visible from the Southern Hemisphere , and , as we can see below in a second photo , quite understandably from blank space . It is a testament to both the talent and acquirement of Pettit as a lensman to get such amazing shot .

It ’s difficult to take motion picture of stars in place because they are very dim . Our satellite and the Moon are so much brighter , make it difficult to take in everything at the same clip . To take good pictures in space you need to have a eminent shutter f number and a very short photograph , which means our satellite and orbiter are distinctly seeable but the stars often ca n’t be seen .
On top of the unusual light condition in space , there ’s another factor , which requires speedy reaction multiplication from the camera . The ISS moves at 8 kilometers per second ( 17,150 miles per hour ) which is great for staying in orbit but less so for not - shaky range of a function . This is why Pettit had to come up with his own tracker to drive home such incredible images . The galaxy are perfectly unclouded but you could see the Earth is a blur .
Another telecasting Pettit recently shared evidence what he jokingly called " cosmic fireflies " . The video may bet pretty but it actually shows Starlink satellites , part of Elon Musk ’s artificial megaconstellation , reflecting sun from their solar panels .
However , scientist are worry that megaconstellations and a multitude of satellite post to distance by private companies are bringinglight pollutionto areas of the satellite where artificial lighting was not previously present .
