Eventually, both parties reached a compromise that included “7 Rings” as part of a medley, and that Grande could pick whichever second song she wanted. But she still rejected the offer, the outlet reports.

The pop star’s next album,Thank U, Next, will hit shelves on Friday, just two days before the Grammys — and a little more than five months afterSweetenerdebuted.

The singer first dropped the song “thank u, next” in November. The upbeat breakup anthem, which she referred to asan “acceptance” songafter having learned from her past relationships, became Grande’s first track totop the Hot 100 chart, where it remained No. 1 for seven weeks.

The song found Grandereviewing her past romanceswith dancerRicky Alvarez, rapperBig Sean, Miller, and Davidson. In the lyrics, she praises all of them for helpingfuel her personal growth.
She kept that theme going with “imagine,” which she dropped less than a month later in December.
In the R&B pop ballad — in which the singer showing off her impressive range — she reflects on her “failed yet important, beautiful relationships.”
