Algebra , Biology , Geometry — these have never been particularly exciting words when it comes to text , but that could change today . Apple ’s attempt at reinvent learnedness is officially on-line andreadyfor download — with each form of address offered at only 15 bucks .
So far the iTunes selection includes the aforementioned titles , along with E.O. Wilson ’s Life on Earth ( first two chapters free ! ) , Chemistry , Environmental Science , and Physics . That have for eight textbooks in all , brood a decent range of topics but nothing too drilled down . Interesting , too , that Apple ’s take its text offensive to mellow schools first , not colleges . maybe because high schools encompass a narrower curricula . Also : get ’em while they ’re young .
One potential hiccup to the textbook plan ? These puppies are Brobdingnagian , over a gig on middling , with Biology tiptoe the scale at 2.77 GB . They may not matter down your back pack , but they ’re going to fill up your iPad pretty damn quickly . look like the money you saved by switching from hardback is going to have to go towards a eminent storage iPad .
Apple ’s clearly starting with the fundamentals here , and publication partners let in the self-aggrandising three : McGraw - Hill , Pearson , and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt ( although the latter does n’t have any usable titles yet ) .
