Cheesy photo filter . You know what I ’m talk about . Those horrid , unserviceable , who - the - shag - coulda - devise , one - clitoris smears of digital feces that have infested Photoshop like cockroaches . For this week ’s Shooting Challenge , Gizmodo readers master the tacky photo filter to make … art ?
WINNER: Bowling Aesthetic
A friend fetch his new fancy camera to a bowling outing this weekend . When it was his turn to bowl , I vex to play with it . In Photoshop , I adjust the white levels quite a number to brighten up the exposure and up the saturation ( apart from his arms ) as much as potential without bankrupt it , then applied the ‘ cutout ’ filter with 8 storey , border simplicity 7 , edge fidelity 3 .

Sprinkles
We had the sprinkler going while I was testing out my Modern telephoto lens of the eye . So i took a picture show of the pee droplets from the other side of my yard and thought it turned out middling neat as a standard picture . So here I am stuck working on a Saturday and I decided to play around with some filters in Photoshop CS5.1 . I applied all the filters and flirt around with their presets and I like this one the good . Canon Rebel T3
Fliter , Sumi - e , Stroke Width 10 , Stroke Pressure 2 , line 16

Fire Lady
This challenge pushed me out of my comfort zona . I normally do not do much redaction to my photo as I do not have any software that does much more than adjust contrast and colour blank space . I have what arrive with my Canon T2i and that is it . I looked , and the software has no fitlers . For a while , I thought I would be unable to even try the challenge unless I could pass of a null filter as a filter . In the mean time I was work on the local county bazaar . On Saturday night they had a local troop call Elemental Artistry which specializes in fire dance and stunting . The family and I stayed to see the show and I snapped a turn of photograph . One of one of the terpsichorean up close swirling the fire around seem rather well to me . Once I got the photos uploaded to the phratry FLICKR site , I remembered that FLICKR has that PICNIK extention that has some ability to cut photos . So I make up one’s mind to give it a try . After a bit of trial and error to see what the different filter would do , I hit on two whose combination I care . The first was Zoom , which created a zooming smear around a cricle on a centeral point . The other was HSL , which I honestly have no hint what it really does , but I liked the consequence of turning the ardour from yellow blank to blue white .

Turbulent Night
I was play around with the Sturm und Drang sport in photoshop a bit , and noticed that you could do some pretty cool thing with the sky . It bring to mind Picasso ’s Van Gogh ’s “ Starry Night ” painting , which was the divine guidance for this shot . Problem was , I populate in England where the nights are never starry . So instead , I take this pic of All Souls College at the University of Oxford on a muddy day ( which are not rare ) . In photoshop , I applied the Dark Strokes filter , sum up some turbulence to the sky and also stretched out the column a bit in a Picasso form of means , then give it that “ painting ” reckon with a Sumi - vitamin E filter . HTC Desire tv camera earphone .

Pseudo-Pointillism
I took this scene during Community Day on our campus . There ’s barren BBQ and there ’s a lot of people taking that hazard to have a breeze near Passion Puddle field . As for the post - processing , I used PhotoScape to edit the picture . I put on ‘ Cross Process ’ , ‘ Cellophane ’ , ‘ Newsprint ’ , and in the end , ‘ Crystalize ’ , to get a pseudo - pointillism drawing as the end intersection . Just some silly stuff . pullulate on Nikon D5000 .

Heat Tree
I was drive into piece of work this first light and the sun looked awful so I stop over to get a few picture near a lake by my house . Then I ingest the picture and loaded it into Picnik ! Woot ! ! I used the “ Duo - Tone ” filter with Red and Yellow , then I applied the “ Heat Map ” , then I used the “ Focus Zoom ” . dissipate on a Canon Digital Rebel 300D.

Low Fidelity Sunrise
My end was to get out and pip some stars as i really liked the way the palette knife filter in photoshop made them endure out from the rest of the image….but alas , the swarm disagreed with me again ! wait patiently for the sunrise i was able to enchant this 60 second exhibit of people of color in the sky before the cloud consumed the Lord’s Day rays for the remainder of the break of the day .

The more I looked at the winning shot , the more I treasure the pappa arty gist on that bowling graphic backsplash . The pic just influence in this wonderful , ego - aware ( and maybe even a little self - deprecating agency . )

Great ( horrible ) chore everyone to everyone else , too ! Unfortunately , we ’re having a technological difficultness in sharing the verandah on Giz today , but all of the full size photos are upon flickr .
