We only think about ourskinwhen something is faulty — it ’s ironical , winkled , or let out out — but our tegument is more than a mathematical function of our imperfectness . It ’s a phonograph recording of our lives .

Winner : Grandmother

This is a portrait of my 89 - year sure-enough grandmother . Rather than showcase wrinkles for the interest of showcasing them , I want to take an onetime Hollywood dash portrait with slightly more upsetting light and show the effect of mature on a face in worldwide and skin in particular . The loosened neck skin is also apparent . The quest is to continue to see that honest-to-goodness beauty , beneath the skin , which require empathy .
Tokina 100 mm f/2.8 on Nikon D7000 . Only one light , Nissin SB-800 equivalent in homemade softbox ( apx 2’x1′ ) range slightly below face level , approx a cadence away from her . She was watching television set .
To institute out max wrinkles , it should have been a abrasive lightness at a grazing slant rather than a head - on softbox , but my purpose was unlike . I want to be able to see this without feeling like a tourer in a South American village , standing in front of an old lady ’s patio .

Luna Moth
I took this photo hiking in the Daniel Boone National Forrest over Memorial day weekend . I think the Luna Moth ’s soft noncitizen like hide contrasted nicely against human chassis

Depression

I have radiocarpal joint - cutting cicatrice on my wrist from a “ the Depression … my depression . I was depressed there . ” stage back in high-pitched schooling , almost a decade ago , which will likely never go away for the eternal rest of my life . The centering of my cicatrice are jolly alarming , but do n’t really mean I was self-destructive – I but did n’t know the across - the - route and down - the - street distinctions back then . That plus the two Xs made for some very interesting and middle - catch feature , which conduct to questions – which I was n’t quick to suffice in any way other than fib .
For eight age , I ’d been assume wrist sweatbands that shroud the entire marred area whenever I ’m out in public or at school day or work – only being comfortable enough to expose the scars when I ’m with hope near friends and meaning others – so as to keep the questions and stares at bay . A duad weeks ago , however , I realize that I ’ve unknowingly become somewhat fine with not traverse up my scars in the presence of hoi polloi who ’d previously not seen them , or fresh people I ’d just met . I ’m not completely there , yet , and still cringe at the opening of hoi polloi ask me what ’s up with my scars , but I ’m looking frontwards to the sidereal day when I can proudly own up to my retiring mistakes and potentially avail those who may be about to go through the same issue .
Taken near sunset with the stock Camera.app on an iPhone 5S , because my DSLR assault and battery was utter . Minor brightness - direct contrast applied to the JPEG , plus toning down the blue saturation .

give
The base double was captured with an iPhone 5S using a low key picture taking technique to bring out the natural texture of the skin of the hired hand . Using Paint.net 3.5.11 , the mental image was direct contrast and brightness corrected . Than the image was converted to a B&W , and finally , burnt sienna 2 filter was put on to give it a natural even peel smell .

Legs
I photograph the model with direct sunlight behind , as if shoot into the sun . I wanted to produce just the starkest of skin hints with black being the empty blank space . The jibe was taken at 10:30 in the cockcrow , no filter , no props , just a unbowed pellet . I had the camera set to monochrome , then desaturated back to B&W in photoshop . tv camera : Canon T3iLens : Zeiss 50 mm , ISO : 200 , Shutter : 1/640 , Aperture : f16

Inside one of the smaller tank was this beautiful orange starfish , perfectly sprawl out on its armoured combat vehicle decor , I mat up the penury to photograph a shot . You never said it had to be human skin . iPhone 4s , No Flash , Tap to Focus . Technique- Press camera lens of the eye as close to glass as potential to avoid major glares , tip on target to focalise . Contrast edited on inexpert editing website ( picmonkey.com )
